"WEF has walked with us through this journey. When our initial project exited, we had no hope. WEF didn't just give us money; they trained us and strengthened our management. We started with KES 50,000, and today we manage KES 750,000 monthly repayments without skipping a single payment. We are grateful to the Fund for believing in us." — Madam Wachu, Group Secretary, Rwaitira Farmers Self Help Group, Gatanga - Nyeri County.

The Challenge: Starting from Scratch

In 2011, the group operated with a modest capital of just KES 10,400. Members contributed KES 100 each toward a "merry-go-round" and social welfare. Despite their resilience, they faced a management vacuum and lacked the affordable credit needed to transition from subsistence farming into sustainable business.

The Catalyst: Training and Capital

The turning point came during a Farmers’ Baraza, where the group met a Women Enterprise Fund (WEF) officer. Beyond providing an initial KES 50,000 loan, WEF equipped members with essential skills in financial literacy, mobile money, and loan management. This foundation of discipline enabled the group to access a cumulative total of KES 3.2 Million in funding over the years.

The Impact: Changing Lives

The infusion of WEF capital has transformed the group into a stable institution with three core achievements:

  • Water Security: Purchased 23 large water tanks (up to 5,000L), ending a crisis where children spent hours fetching water instead of studying.
  • Economic Growth: Table-banking capital has grown to KES 270,000, fueling individual ventures in Dairy, Poultry, and Tissue Banana farming.
  • Social Stability: A KES 220,000 merry-go-round fund now provides a vital safety net for widows and vulnerable members.

The Future: Building a Legacy

The group is now focused on sustainability, planning to recruit their sons and daughters to ensure a seamless transition of leadership. By auditing risk areas and maintaining a zero-default record, they are securing a prosperous future for the next generation.

Through the Women Enterprise Fund, this group has proven that with the right training and affordable credit, rural women are the true architects of community development.
